Automated Permeation Breakthrough Analyser

EN 16523-1 chemical permeation testing of gloves

When working with hazardous chemicals it is vital that appropriate protective clothing should be worn.  These items of protective clothing should be tested to ensure they offer a suitable level of chemical protection.  Testing the rate at which an chemical permeates through a material is used to determine the level of protection it can offer.  To acheive certification as ‘chemically protective’ in accordance with EN ISO 374-1 a glove must achieve a certain breakthrough times against a number of challenge chemicals.

Ellutia offers a complete systems for the automatic analysis of permeation breakthrough.  The system comprises of a number of permeation cells. Each cell has the challenge chemical applied on one side of the sample material and automatically samples the headspace from the other side periodically to plot the permeation breakthrough.  The Cells can be operated in series or parrallel depending on the test requirments.  The Headspace from the cells is analysed by an Ellutia 200 Series GC and the results automatically plotted by custom software.
